Key Responsibilities

As an Electrician UG, C3, your primary duties will include:

  • Maintenance & Repair: Perform safe maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and machinery to ensure maximum availability and reliability.
  • Compliance: Ensure all engineering procedures align with relevant standards and regulations, including the Mine Health and Safety Act.
  • Inspection & Documentation: Conduct regular inspections of electrical systems and document maintenance, repairs, and inspections on checklists and job cards.
  • Fault Detection & Repair: Identify faults within electrical systems and perform repairs with minimal supervision.
  • Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and safe working environment, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored after use.
  • Risk Assessments: Conduct appropriate Risk Assessments (RA) before carrying out any work to ensure tasks are performed safely.
  • Shift & Overtime: Be prepared to work shifts, overtime, and standby duties as required to ensure smooth operations at Kriel Colliery.

Key Qualifications & Experience

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Electrical Trade Test Certificate: A recognized qualification is essential for this position, validating expertise in the electrical trade.
  • Educational Qualifications:
    • Internal Candidates: Grade 12 with Mathematics (Not Literacy) and Science, with a minimum E symbol in these subjects, and two N2 trade-related subjects according to MQA guidelines.
    • External Candidates: Grade 12 with Mathematics (Not Literacy) and Science, with a minimum E symbol and four N2 trade-related subjects as per MQA guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Safety Regulations: A strong understanding of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and safety systems, with a focus on maintaining high safety standards in the workplace.
  • Experience: At least two years post-trade experience as an Electrician, preferably in underground coal mining operations.
  • Driver’s License & Transport: A valid K53 driver’s license and own transport are required for this role.
  • Health & Fitness: Applicants must be in possession of or be able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness before commencing work.

Additional Skills & Knowledge

Candidates with the following skills and knowledge will have an advantage:

  • High-Tension (HT) Systems: Knowledge of HT systems, reticulation drawings, and various underground electrical systems such as Gate end boxes, Genwest/Dimako, and Microload.
  • PLC Experience: Proficiency in the operation of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Equipment Operation: Experience with the operation of water pumps and jet fans.
  • Flame Proofing & Gas Testing: Knowledge of flame proofing and gas testing procedures.
  • HT Switching & Risk Management: Knowledge of HT switching and risk management courses.
  • Equipment Familiarity: Experience working with equipment such as Guduza, Peflo, and Microload systems.
