As a Learner Firefighter, you’ll become a first responder in emergency situations. You’ll receive structured training while assisting in real-world firefighting and rescue operations. ✅ Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
- A valid Code B or Code C1 driver’s licence
- Proof of CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) certification
- Medical fitness (in compliance with NFPA 1582 standards)
- Physically and mentally fit to perform demanding duties
- No criminal record
- Willingness to:
- Work shifts, overtime, and respond to emergencies at short notice
- Operate from any fire station within the municipality
- Firefighting 1 qualification with First Aid certification
- Proficiency in at least two of the three official Western Cape languages (English, Afrikaans, isiXhosa)
🏅 Added Advantages (Not Required, But Preferred)
Candidates with any of the following will have a competitive edge:
- Firefighting 2 certification
- HAZMAT Awareness or HAZMAT Operations training
These certifications indicate advanced readiness and show a strong commitment to emergency services.
🧯 Key Responsibilities
In this dynamic role, you’ll take part in:
- Operating and driving firefighting and emergency vehicles
- Responding to fire, rescue, and emergency calls
- Maintaining equipment, vehicles, and fire stations in a constant state of readiness
- Preparing reports and assisting with record-keeping
- Supporting purchasing and materials management processes
- Engaging in ongoing physical training and professional development
You will also assist with administrative tasks and be expected to adapt quickly to new responsibilities as emergencies unfold.
💼 Remuneration and Benefits
This is a Category 1 Municipality position at Post Level T06, offering:
- Annual Salary Range:
R155,086.20 – R201,319.92 (dependent on experience and qualifications) - Employee Benefits:
